Sudoku Daily Browser Extension Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the Sudoku Daily browser extension for Firefox and Chrome, published by PuzzleTide, handles data. It applies only to the extension, not to the PuzzleTide website.

Last updated: July 18, 2026

Privacy summary

No developer-operated requests

The extension makes no HTTP requests to PuzzleTide or other web services and does not use ads, analytics, trackers, or remote code.

Stored for the game only

Puzzle progress stays on the device. Only preferences and game statistics may be stored through the browser's extension sync service.

1. Data the extension handles

Sudoku Daily handles a limited amount of user activity data so it can save and resume a game. This includes:

  • Puzzle progress, including grid entries, pencil marks, the selected cell, conflicts, hints used, elapsed time, and completion status.
  • Game statistics, including solved counts, difficulty, best times, streaks, and the date of the most recent daily completion.
  • Preferences, including theme, timer visibility, mistake and conflict highlighting, and pencil-mark behavior.
  • Technical game data, including locally generated puzzle data, short-lived puzzle cache entries, generation checkpoints, and an installation date used for extension behavior.

The extension does not collect personally identifiable information, health information, financial or payment information, authentication information, personal communications, location, browsing history, or website content. It does not inspect tabs or web pages and does not log raw clicks, mouse movement, scrolling, or keystrokes.

2. How data is used and stored

The data is used only to provide Sudoku Daily's disclosed purpose: letting users play, resume, and track daily and practice Sudoku games.

  • Browser local storage: Puzzle progress, practice state, puzzle cache, settings, and statistics are stored on the user's device.
  • Browser sync storage: Preferences and game statistics are also written to the browser's extension sync service on a best-effort basis. This service, such as Firefox Sync or Chrome Sync, is operated by the browser vendor and controlled through the user's browser account settings. PuzzleTide does not receive or have server-side access to this synced data.
  • PuzzleTide servers: The extension makes no HTTP requests to PuzzleTide or other developer-operated servers, so PuzzleTide does not receive extension gameplay data.

3. Sharing and transfers

PuzzleTide does not sell extension data or transfer it to advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or other third parties. The only external storage the extension may use is the browser's extension sync service for preferences and game statistics, as described above.

If a user chooses the Share command, the extension prepares a result containing the puzzle number, difficulty, completion time, streak, and a PuzzleTide link. That result is copied or passed to a sharing destination only at the user's request. PuzzleTide does not receive the shared result from the extension.

4. Retention and user control

  • Daily puzzle progress older than 10 days is automatically removed.
  • Cached daily puzzles are limited to the previous, current, and next local calendar day.
  • Data in browser local storage remains until it is cleared or the extension is removed.
  • Synced preferences and statistics are controlled through the browser's sync settings.

5. Permissions

  • storage: Saves puzzle progress, preferences, streaks, and statistics, and syncs only preferences and statistics through the browser's extension sync service.
  • alarms: Schedules the local midnight rollover, prepares the new daily puzzle, and shows the new-puzzle badge.

The extension requests no host permissions and uses no remote JavaScript or WebAssembly. All executable code is included in the submitted extension package.

6. Browser API data

Sudoku Daily uses information received from browser APIs only to provide its disclosed Sudoku functionality. It does not use or transfer that information for personalized advertising, unrelated purposes, creditworthiness, or lending.

7. External links

The extension contains optional links to puzzletide.com. Opening one is a user-initiated action outside the extension. Activity on the website is covered by the PuzzleTide website privacy policy.

8. Changes and contact

This policy may be updated if the extension's functionality or data practices change. The date at the top of this page will identify the latest version.

Privacy questions can be sent through the contact form or emailed to [email protected].
